Nissan said today that U.S. sales of its cars and trucks declined 7% in September compared with the same month a year ago as the industry struggled with low inventories and a drop-off in customers following expiration of the government's cash-for-clunkers incentive program.
Sales of Nissan cars and trucks declined 2.9% in August, compared to the same year-ago period, despite strong gains by some of the automaker's fuel-efficient models under the government's cash-for-clunkers program.
Nissan Motor Co. said Monday that it is adding a third shift at its Canton, Miss., plant to assemble the Nissan Altima, the automaker's best-selling model in the United States. U.S. sales of the Altima increased 43.7% in May, to 34,428.
