NEW YORK -- General Motors has lined up a Chinese manufacturing company as the buyer for Hummer, in what could be the first entry into the U.S. auto market by a Chinese company.

General Motors has reached a final deal to sell the Hummer brand to China-based Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co., the companies announced Friday.

Hummer, as part of a Chinese company, plans to invest up to $9.4 million in a new headquarters located either in Detroit or Auburn Hills, state records showed Tuesday.
